Maldives Travel - Health and Safety In The Maldives

Given the huge number of resorts in the Maldives, where many of them are four and five stars, it is a relatively safe place to visit, as far as health is concerned.

However, visitors are advised to get immunisations for Diphtheria, Tetanus, Polio, Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B. for those who intend to dive are advised to go for a medical check up prior to their travel to the Maldives.

In addition, do ensure that your general health is good prior to travel and consider taking a basic medical kit. Though most resorts have adequate facilities to treat minor problems that may occur, it is advisable to carry your own medical kit as an added precaution.

The well known resorts have very high standards with regards to the quality of food offered and most employ highly skilled professional chefs to prepare meals for guests. So dining in the resorts is usually very safe.

The only time you may be at slightly higher risk is when eating in individual places such as Cafes in Male (though even these places are generally fine). Regarding drinking water, make sure that you drink only bottled water during your stay and not direct from the water tap.

During your Maldives travel, some of the common health problems that may occur include exhaustion, heat-stroke, sunburn and motion sickness. Some infectious diseases may include diarrhoea, hepatitis and fungal infections.

Some diseases may also be spread through insects, such as Malaria and Dengue fever.

In particular, be very careful when spending time in the water as it is possible to pick up cuts, bites & stings.
